Not too much to say here. The Blues defies academic criticism. You know it when you hear, and that's all you need to know. Howlin' Wolf was a Chicago Blues Master. Wolf and Muddy Waters defined the genre and laid down the road map for all to follow. For a period of time, Howlin' Wolf was the most powerful man on earth.
I had the great privilage of buying Howlin' Wolf a beer and talking to him during a performance break at the Ashgrove Club, in Hollywood, CA in 1969. He was a quiet spoken gentleman who was kind enough to sit down with two 19 year old white boys to chat a bit. All those old Blues guys carried a sense of honor and dignity. That was something no one could take away from them.
