Rush is hands down my favorite Rock band. It all begins with incredible musicianship blended with contrasting disonance and melody topped off with poetic lyrics. I'm amazed everytime I watch them play. I'm not about to say that Neil Peart is the best drummer in the world, but NO ONE plays quite like he does. Geddy Lee is a monster on bass and his high upper register vocals creates an almost surreal atmosphere. Guitar player Alex Lifeson is the group's most underrated member. His playing is unpredictable, from playful to melodic to full bore distortion, always technically near perfection. Count em, there's only three of them up there.
An air of controversy surrounds Rush. There are many who hate this band for one reason or another. It could be Geddy Lee's high voice, or the ambitious lyrics and playing. It's my opinion that a lot of folks don't like this band because they have often adopted a Libertarian stance. That's no more popular with Secular Progressives than it is with the Christian Right. Alas, Rush may never make it into the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", but honestly, who cares?
